Nerd Swap Episode 10: The Ultimates, Volume One!

Welcome back!

Nerd Swap has Chris Rose back to talk with Tim about the big modern update for the Avengers in the Ultimate universe, The Ultimates.

Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch do some of their best work in this series, adding their own slight twists to these iconic Marvel heroes.

The first thirteen issues of The Ultimates were so great, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has used it for their own success.

Nick Fury assembles his team, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Wasp, and Giant Man to show the world that America is not to be messed with!  All they really accomplish is making Bruce Banner really sad. This brings out a side of The Hulk that I thought I'd never see in comics, which is the one that wants to eat Freddie Prinze Jr for taking Betty Ross on a date.

So,if you love illustrated cameos from mega-stars like Freddie Prinze Jr, you'll love, "The Ultimates"

Nerd Swap Episode 8: Injustice!

In our latest episode, Tim, Matt Tapia, and Alec Stein read Injustice: Gods Among Us, By writer Tom Taylor and various artists, published by DC Comics.

Injustice is a great, "Elseworlds" tale that shows us exactly what it takes to push Superman over the edge, and declare martial law on the entire world.

This take on the Justice League is told in a series of short stories, each showing the reader the elements of this fantastic alternate world.

Nerd Swap Episode 7: Who is Jake Ellis?

Who is Jake Ellis?

Tim is joined by Kurt Biallas to get to the bottom of this very question.

In this spy thriller, brought to us by Nathan Edmondson and Tonci Zonjic on Image Comics, we follow Jon Moore, an ex-CIA analyst who's been on the run for roughly four years.  He seems to have the upper hand in any situation he's in, and that's because he's helped by an "invisible friend" named Jake Ellis.  Jake seems to know anything going on in the area surrounding Jon, and is able to direct him to safety in any situation.

This is a kind of, "Fight Club meets Bourne Identity," style action thriller, laid out with some of the most vivid colors I have seen in a long time.  It is amazing.

Check it out, then listen to us talk about this beautiful book.

Nerd Swap Episode 6: Wanted

New episode this week!

Exciting, I know.  In this episode, Tim and Thundergonz sit down to talk about Wanted, the "What If" tale of super villains running the world and causing chaos across multiple universes by Mark Millar and JG Jones.

When I say chaos, I mean it.  Wanted is darkly comedic, with a brutal and unflinching look at the main character Wesley's transformation from complete pussy to total sociopath.

Won't you join us while we discuss it?

Nerd Swap Episode 5: Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl

I know, I know, this episode came out last week, but I'm here to remind you that it is up, and it is amazing.

The crack team of Tim Burke and Ryan Malo take a look at Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's super powered crime noir classic, Powers.

We check out Volume one, Who Killed Retro Girl, and it was just as amazing as I remembered.  Secret lives, sassy detectives, and stupid Kutter are just a small part of this fully realized fictional world.  Walker and Pilgrim make great partners, which make this an amazing series.

Check it out, then check us out!
